Clean Air Increases Life Expectancy

Another interesting report about the effects polluted air has on our lives. And how simple things we do to improve our air quality can impact our life expectancy. According to a study conducted by the New England Journal of Medicine, reduction of airborne particulate matter accounted for 15% of the life expectancy increase reported.

The article also provides some suggestions to reduce the amount of airborne particulate matter you breathe in. As always, maintaining a clean air environment in your home should be high on your list.

Heightened Cancer Risks From Air Pollution

The EPA recently released a new study regarding heightened Cancer risks facing Americans due to toxic air pollution. The study cites that the Cancer risk from toxic air has now increased to 10 in every 1 million Americans. (The EPA considers levels above 100 in every 1 million as generally unacceptable.)

What’s the best way to clean the air in my home?

In a recent articles in the NY Times, the question was asked “What’s the best way to clean the air in my home?” Air researchers talk about the rule of 1000, that anything released indoors is about 1000 times more likely to be breathed in than something released outdoors. The article discusses air cleaners with a CADR certifications, air filters with a minimum efficiency reporting value (MERV) over 10, and numerous cleaning and living tips to help provide yourself with fresher air.

Air Quality Awareness Week

May is right around the corner and its that time of year to make sure your air conditioner and air filter are clean and running properly. Along with the hotter days comes raised ozone levels, and as part of their “Be Air Aware”, the EPA and National weather service announce that April 27-May 1 2009 is Air Quality Awareness Week.
